First Environmental Accounts Report released on 29th September 2017

 Press Release

The National Statistics Bureau (NSB) announces the release of its first publication, the Annual Environmental Accounts 2017. The publication is a compilation of environment related information in key economic sectors in Bhutan. The statistical information is collected from various agencies and private sectors, and from data available in different statistical publications. The report aims to provide foundations and development towards improved decision makings related to sustainable development and green economy. Improvement in the management of our environmental assets are critical in making sustainable use of our scare resources. Bhutan has high regard for its nature and environment.

The compilation of environmental accounts is based on United Nations framework and recommendations of the System of Environment-Economic Accounts (SEEA). It covers data on green economic indicators, fossil fuel accounts (diesel, petrol, LPG), accounts on energy products such as kerosene, fuelwood, briquette and coal. It also includes electricity accounts, asset accounts for timber, sand, stone and stone chips, and mineral accounts for the period covering from 2010 to 2016, where possible. It is hoped that this report will serve as useful and important tools for policy, evaluation and monitoring of economic development plans and programs. The soft copy of the publication is now available in our website.
