The Third SAARCSTAT meeting for the Heads of the Statistical Organizations in the Region

18th November 2010 : The Third SAARCSTAT Meeting for the Heads of the Statistical Organization in the region was held at Hotel Zhiwa Ling in Paro on 18-19 November 2010. H.E Lyono Dorji Wangdi, the minister for Labour and Human Resources was the chief guest at the meeting which was attended by all the Heads of the Statistical Organization from the SAARC member states.

The meeting is the outcome of the 13th Session of the Standing Committee (Islamabad, 18-19 July 2004) which approved the proposal for cooperation in the area of statistics among Member States. Since then the member countries have been hosting the SAARCSTAT meeting in turn. The Third SAARCSTAT Meeting in Bhutan was organized by National Statistics Bureau.  Various issues on Statistics such as trade in services, and disability health statistics discussed. Among others, the introduction of Exchange programme of expert Statisticians through MOU, consistent concepts, definitions and standards on key health statistics and capacity building were high on agenda.
