Annual Statistics Quiz Competition

Monggar, 28th October 2009: The Annual Statistics Quiz competition was organized by the National Statistics Bureau (NSB) with financial support from the UNFPA (Zamling Chi Tsog MiLhop MaNguel). The Annual Statistics Quiz competition was also organized to mark the United Nation’s Day in Bhutan. The Assistant Resident Representative of the UNFPA was also present as a special guest

A similar statistics quiz was first conducted amongst the schools in Thimphu last year, where eight schools within Thimphu city took part in it.

Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School stood first, second and third positions went to Nima Higher Secondary School and Motithang Higher Secondary School respectively.

The main objective of conducting such event is:

• To create awareness on the importance and the usefulness of statistics in the country.
• To develop interest in statistics among school children and build a data literate society in future.
• It aims to educate the country’s children on various development and socio-economic activities achievements of the country.

The winners (First, Second and Third) of the competition was awarded a cash price of Nu. 20,000/- , Nu. 15,000/-, Nu. 10,000/- respectively with trophies and certificates.

This year Monggar Higher Secondary School won the first price and followed by Jigme Sherubling Higher Secondary School, Khaling and Tashitse Higher Secondary School, Wamrong.
