The infrastructure mapping is the first attempt of the National Statistics Bureau (NSB) to identify and locate
various socio-economic facilities in the country. The exercise was carried out throughout the country using the
Geo Positioning System (GPS) and the field survey was conducted in the year 2008. The present report consists
of data on sectors like the health and education establishment, road. Bridges, RNR centres, gewog centres etc.
and on historical sites/lhakhangs. The mapping is based on the land cover maps provided by the Department of
Survey and Land records.
Although there may be some shortcoming in terms of survey coverage and data reliability, we have made every
effort to ensure full coverage and also to verify and authenticate the various data contained in the report.
We hope to make this publication a regular feature and also hope to improve the contents in terms of coverage
of the sectors as well as integrating the other socio-economic data from other surveys and censuses so as to make it
more informative and comprehensive.
By providing data on various sectors pictorially we hope that this report will not only enhance and strengthen
planning and decision-making in the country but will also attract the interest of more users, especially those who
suffer from some phobia when it comes to numbers, there by slowly developing a more data literate society.
The report would not have been possible without the help and assistance from the Dzongkhags,
in particular the sector heads and hence we would like to thank them and also hope that such cooperation
will be forthcoming in such exercise in future. We would also like to thank the UN system in the country,
particularly the UNFPA, UNICEF, and WFP for supporting with the funds to undertake the surveying and publishing the report.
